The POWER of Colour

 250x1000_fitbox-copy_of_amr_007_009_before_the_start.jpg  Long recognised as a marketing tool colour has now emerged as a powerful visual element to aid brand recognition and to be the foundation for the public perception of a company. The registered combination of orange, blue and white in the Gulf logo gives an instant reaction as the logo is well know throughout six continents.
 However in addition to this combination Gulf also has its iconic motor racing livery of pale blue and orange, acquired in the 1960's when Gulf bought the Wiltshire Oil Company in the USA. Little did they know when they made this purchase how significant this colour combination would become. The Gulf racing livery shot to international prominence in the late 1960's when the Gulf sponsored Ford GT 40's and Porsche 917 dominated the Le Mans 24 Hours, race a position that it has maintained to this day, winning the 2008 GT1 category with Aston Martin.
 So strong has this colour combination become that the Gulf Oil International Group created an international first when they were granted a pan-EU trademark registration for this unique colour combination. The Registrar of the CTM registrations acknowledged that Gulf had developed its property in these colours and that the combination merited international recognition and protection. Commercial use of these colours, without the additional use of any logo or trade name, as for the Gulf Logo itself, is only possible under agreement from Gulf Oil International. Non-commercial use in motorsport applications also may be possible, though any overt use of the Gulf logo with the colours should be agreed in advance with Gulf Oil International.  250x1000_fitbox-img_9979.jpg
