1971: Steve McQueen & Gulf's Hollywood Adventure

The Le Mans movie of the 1970 race was brilliant publicity for Gulf, ask anyone who watched it who one the 1970 Le Mans and they would probably say Steve McQueen in the Gulf Porsche 917, the blue and orange one.

It quenched an audience's thirst for speed. However, it didn't reflect what actually happened, Hanns Herrmanand and Richard Attwood won Le Mans in 1970 but it was McQueen's movie, and Gulf's, putting the brand into minds everywhere. However the le mans movie almost destroyed McQueen, at this time his marriage fell to pieces, his company was bankrupted, his director walked out on him, he signed away his share of the profits, his fee and his editorial control, continually used drugs and became moody and depressive, yet he was still one of the best drivers of his time.
