LE MANS SERIES ROUND 5 - SILVERSTONE 1000 KMS
The Gulf-sponsored Barazi-Epsilon Zytek 07S of Juan Barazi, Michael
Vergers and Karim Ojjeh swept to the top step of the victory podium in
the LMP2 Category - and fifth place overall - in the UK Round of the Le
Mans Series (LMS) - the Silverstone 1000KMs.
The battle for LMP2 was one of highlights of the day, with the lead
changing hands several times and looking in doubt all the way through
to the final minutes of the race.
As the clock moved to Midday, Juan Barazi took the opening stint in
the Gulf Zytek and he drove rapidly and consistently for his two hours,
bringing the car in fourth in LMP2 and thirteenth overall.
Michael Vergers took on the middle stint and in a trademark drive from
the Dutchman, moved the Gulf Zytek up through the order both in
category and in overall terms.
So it was left to Karim Ojjeh to drive the final two hours and the Gulf
driver set to work maintaining the lead he had been given. Settling
rapidly into the car he drove an almost faultless last stint - seeing
off the challenge of Warren Hughes in the Radical and then maintaining
a fast enough pace to ensure he stayed ahead of the second Zytek of the
LNT Team and ensure the first Gulf victory this season, at the track
where coincidentally, it last achieved LMP2 victory, in 2005.

It was a jubilant Barazi-Epsilon team, therefore, saw finally reward
for all of its hard work, and fittingly this was achieved in front of
the biggest crowd of Gulf guests of the season, which included
representatives of Gulf affiliates from Belgium and from Turkey.
The next round of the Le Mans Series takes place in Interlagos, Brazil.
The LMS finale will take place at the home of the Brazilian F1
GP, the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paolo. It will be the first time that
the LMS has visited South America and Gulf affiliates from all over the
continent are gathering for what will hopefully be another successful
weekend.
