Gulf Sustainable Products
Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants
At Gulf, we believe in making sustainability a priority and have therefore developed a comprehensive sustainability strategy that guides our actions and initiatives. We strive to make tangible improvements to our product portfolio and throughout our operations.
Some key aspects of our sustainability efforts across our lubricant’s portfolio come from enhancing oil drain intervals and improving fuel economy. Through longer drain intervals our customers use less product and create less waste. Whilst through optimised fuel efficiency, our customers can reduce their overall fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Both initiatives help contribute to the global effort of mitigating climate change.
Our sustainability strategy extends beyond our immediate operations, to encompass indirect greenhouse gas emissions that occur at different stages of our value chain but are not under our direct control. Although they are not part of our owned assets, we recognise them as our responsibility to help address. Therefore, we actively collaborate with our partners and suppliers to identify and implement measures that help reduce these emissions, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious value chain.
Gulf is committed to sustainability, always seeking innovative approaches to elevate operations and foster a positive environmental impact, all while steadfastly delivering quality and value to our customers.
What role does the lubricant industry play towards sustainability?
What role does the lubricant industry play towards sustainability?
Gulf is committed to cutting CO2 emissions. It has become one of our top priorities. Recognising that the lubrication industry is a key part of nearly all industrial and manufacturing-based processes, we understand the need for a redesign that aligns with modern requirements. It is our responsibility to actively pursue industry regulations to enhance our environmental footprint.
Our goals for cutting emissions come alongside our unwavering focus to maximise our output, increase productivity and efficiency. At the core of the lubricant industry is the smooth functioning of machinery and equipment. Reducing friction, increasing the lifespan of equipment, improving fuel economy and helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Lubricants for Improved Fuel Economy
The modern Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) today are much more tightly tolerant than past models. There’s now a tighter clearance between the main bearing and the crankshaft journal which has an impact on the type of lubrication required.
Here at Gulf, we have developed low-viscosity lubricants that offer a faster-flowing oil to fill the tiny gaps between parts. This can lead to durable, consistent lubrication and better wear protection for engines. The result is often lower CO2 emissions and better fuel consumption as the lubrication can help with increased performance efficiency.
- Gulf Formula series, specifically the 0W-20 range and Gulf Ultrasynth Series such as 0W-16 for Passenger cars help to deliver improved fuel economy.
- Gulf Superfleet Professional ECON 5W-30 designed for Heavy Duty Engines; can offer up to 1.2% better fuel economy and an enhanced level of engine protection. This will help to lower CO2 emissions.

EV lubricants
As the climate crisis continues, industries are shifting to more environmentally friendly equipment and machinery to reduce carbon emissions from their operations and minimise the impact on people and the planet.
The automotive industry is no exception. As vehicle manufacturers continue to introduce and develop new electric vehicles (EVs) for the market, it is clear that the future of automobiles and transportation is electric. More drivers each year are choosing electric in favour of internal combustion engines (ICE)
The Gulf EV Fluids range provides tailored solutions for the complex powertrains of hybrid and electric vehicles for optimal performance. Featuring EV transmission fluid, EV brake fluid and EV coolant fluid, our products:
- Improve fuel economy
- Reduce CO2 emissions
- Extend battery life
Long Drain Capable Lubricants
Gulf works hard to develop lubricants which have approval from leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as MAN, Daimler and Iveco. These lubricants have helped to significantly extend the interval between oil drains, increasing it from 50,000km up to 150,000 km. This can help to cut the amount of waste oil generated during the lifetime of engines and equipment. Improving the engine longevity and equipment lifespan can also result in significant cost savings.
- The Gulf Superfleet Professional Diesel Engine Oil series includes products that offers extended oil drain interval to deliver a lower carbon footprint through reduced generation of used oil. This series can help save money on the total cost of ownership (TCO) for businesses.
- The Gulf Harmony Plus and Gulf Harmony Premium series’ extended drain intervals can play a part in aiding the reduction of CO2 impact.
Synthetic fluids
Synthetic fluids
Synthetic fluids in the Gulf Industrial product range are available across a variety of applications and provide longer drain interval as compared to Mineral-based fluids.
The Gulf Synthetic Industrial product portfolio includes:
- Gulf Harmony Bio-Synth (Biodegradable Synthetic Hydraulic Fluid)
- Gulf GEARTEK SY, Gulf GEARTEK PG, Gulf GEARTEK SHD (Industrial Gear Oil)
- Gulf Fidelity PA, Gulf Fidelity LL (Compressor Oils)
Catalyst Compatible Lubricants
Gasoline and diesel engines emit a mixture of air pollutants created by the combustion process. After-treatment devices are used to minimise the pollutant emissions in automotive vehicles. Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur (SAPS) can detrimentally affect the after-treatment devices, especially gasoline and diesel particulate filters (GPF/ DPF).
Gulf Formula series meets the ACEA C Category & Gulf Superfleet Professional series the ACEA E6/E9 oil specifications. These products have lower SAPS levels and have been designed specifically to help with the smooth functioning of after-treatment devices that cut down on engine emissions.
Biodegradable and Environmentally Accepted Marine Lubricants (EAL)
The global marine industry needs to make changes to ensure it continues to address sustainability in a modern world - the shift is already happening. Gulf Marine has developed a broad range of both biodegradable and Environmentally Accepted Lubricants (EAL), which meet the strict ecological requirements and standards of the 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP). We also have lubricant products which meet the performance requirements of the 2012 sulphur regulations, reducing them down to 0.5%.
- GulfSea BD Sterntube Oils are VGP-compliant, biodegradable lubricants.
- GulfSea BD Hydraulic Oils are a series of VGP-compliant, high-performance biodegradable fluids. These are ester-based, zinc-free, and demonstrate a high level of anti-wear performance.
Specialised Crop Protection oils
For centuries, farmers have been using petroleum-based crop protection products to improve their yield. In recent years, with technological advancements, new and improved formulated Agricultural spray oils have enhanced product efficacy, dramatically decreasing the amount of pesticide required, from kilograms per hectare to grams per hectare today. These oils are safer for the environment with greater protection compared to the conventional pesticides.
- Gulf Agricultural Crop Protection range is made of highly refined paraffin oil. Its emulsifying properties allows uniform distribution of oil droplets on the plant for longer, protecting against harmful predators. This also gives a lower risk of phytotoxicity in plants to ensure maximum protection throughout the crop cycles.
- Gulf Agri Organic Spray Oils are developed for the most sensitive crops, 99% free of aromatics and non-toxic to wildlife. With low impact on biodiversity, they help farmers improve sustainability, contributing towards a much healthier yield.
